The hip hinge is
a crucial element for almost every lower-body movement performed in the gym
that doesn't involve a machine or being in a seated position. The hip hinge
involves flexion/extension originating at the hips and a posterior weight
shift. One of the most notable exercises that requires a sound technique for
the hip hinge is the kettle-bell swing. Here is a video that explains 2 simple
cues that will allow you (or your athletes) to perfect the technique.
***It is
important to note that the hip hinge is in no way associated with a squat
pattern.
