Trigger Points

Self-myofascial release is another way of saying, "a self-massage that releases muscles tightness and trigger points." Foam rolling can assist in breaking up these muscle knots (trigger points), but some knots may be too deep or difficult to reach with a foam roller. A lacrosse ball is small enough to target those hard to reach trigger points and dense enough to have the same effect as a foam roller. Releasing trigger points helps to reestablish proper movement patterns and pain free movement, and ultimately, to enhance performance. By applying pressure to specific points on your body you are able to aid in the recovery of muscles and assist in returning them to normal function. The idea of any corrective or recovery technique is to get your body back to the point of normal functioning so that your muscles are elastic, healthy, and ready to perform at a moment’s notice.
